Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have expressed their support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2024 elections

In a press conference held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 in Accra, Mr. Gilbert Boateng Agyare, the communication officer of the PWD group, highlighted the NPP's track record of enacting social intervention programs that directly impact PWDs.

“We are strongly behind Dr Bawumia because of NPP on account of its social intervention programmes that affect persons With Disabilities. Disability legislation, common Found for PWDS, Economic empowerment of PWDs and bursaries for students with Disabilities in tertiary institutions,” he said.

He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia's leadership is crucial for Ghana's development path, noting his ability to foster unity among Ghanaians across diverse religious and social backgrounds.

Mr. Agyare further highlighted specific initiatives undertaken by the NPP government under Dr. Bawumia's leadership, such as the integration of PWDs into the National Youth Employment Agency (NYEA) scheme, providing them with sustainable employment opportunities following the abolition of tollbooth operations.

Echoing Mr. Agyare's sentiments, Mr. Prince Debrah, an Assembly Member in the Kwadaso Municipality, Mr Prince Debrah shared his personal endorsement of Dr. Bawumia and the NPP, stating, “I decided to join the Disability train for Bawumia because the NPP has more social intervention policies than any political party in the country.”
