Impeaching Akufo-Addo will save Ghanaians from listening to his lies — Nana Yaa Jantuah

Impeaching Akufo-Addo will save Ghanaians from listening to his lies —Nana Yaa Jantuah

Former Director of Public Relations and External Affairs at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Nana Yaa Jantuah, has called for the impeachment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to her, the President must be removed for spewing lies to provoke the already angry Ghanaians.

Jantuah's call for impeachment comes in the wake of President Akufo-Addo's recent assertion that the country's power crisis, commonly referred to as Dumsor, has been effectively resolved.

Speaking at the annual May Day celebration in Accra, the President expressed confidence in the measures to ensure a stable electricity supply, claiming that the entire country did not experience power outages on April 30.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their patience and understanding during recent temporary challenges with electricity supply across the country. Over the period, the issues surrounding transformers and gas supply have been successfully resolved resulting in sufficient improvement in power supply reliability.

“Indeed, over the past few days, we have witnessed stable electricity supply across the country with no load-shedding reported anywhere yesterday. For the past seven years we have worked tirelessly to keep the lights on and I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return,” the President stated.

However, Jantuah vehemently disagreed with the President's assessment while speaking in an interview on TV3’s ‘The Big Issue’ on Thursday.

Expressing frustration over the situation, Jantuah remarked, “I don’t understand the behaviour of the President…because who briefed him? The handlers who briefed him—did they tell him Dumsor is gone? He said Tuesday…and on Tuesday I was in Dumsor wide area, I found out…my lights were off on Tuesday 6 to 6 straight 12 hours, that is Dumsor. You cannot describe it as anything but there’s a challenge in the system.”

“Nobody has dumsor on their name, the President himself does not have dumsor on his name, It is a situation that has to be resolved; there’s nothing wrong with the nation going through such a challenge. Accept the challenges and let’s all resolve them.

“Where are we going? We need to do things properly and differently…maybe somebody should impeach the president for us…so that we will not hear these things anymore. The Parliament may take action…that is the only way. So that when he goes to sit home, somebody should take over,” she stressed.

Queried on how impeaching the president would resolve the power challenges, she expressed, “Then we will not hear these things, and then we will have somebody who will listen to advice; I don’t know who it is but maybe we don’t have to hear him anymore. Parliament should do us a favour and let President Akufo-Addo go because he has checked out.”
