Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has promised to work with the media when voted president to protect Ghana’s natural resources.

In a statement to commemorate the 2024 World Press Freedom Day, the former President argued that the media has failed to effectively hold government accountable for critical environmental issues such as illegal mining (galamsey), deforestation, and worsening sanitation.

This he said is of alarming concern.
John Dramani Mahama in his statement assured that when voted president in the 2024 general election, he will work with the media to bring change.

“As a leader committed to building the Ghana we want, I am steadfast in my commitment to fostering a stronger partnership between the government and the media. Together, we will protect our natural resources for the benefit of future generations.

“Together with the media, we will aim to foster a more transparent and accountable framework that emphasises sustainable development and environmental conservation,” John Dramani Mahama said in his statement.

He further called on all to support the crucial work of journalists in confronting the environmental crisis and shaping a better future for everyone.
