Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said there will be difference in how the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) operates when he becomes president.

At a meeting with a cross-section of market traders and importers in Accra on Saturday, May 4, the Vice President assured that tax officers from GRA will no longer storm shops to monitor sales of traders.

He stressed that this practice of invigilation by GRA where tax officers sometimes sit in the shops of traders for months will no longer happen.

Early this year, the Vice President described this practice as harassment. He indicated that GRA sets unrealistic targets which often compels officers to harass business owners.

During his meeting with traders and importers in Accra, Dr. Bawumia discussed with them issues affecting their businesses and the way forward.

He used the opportunity to explain the new policies he has proposed to improve the business environment in Ghana.

He noted that when he becomes president, there will be a flat tax regime for all businesses and individuals to make the system transparent and enhance compliance as exists in Estonia.

He said there will be a tax amnesty to be implemented in 2025 for all individuals and businesses to eliminate tax liabilities up to a certain year.
