Former president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Sam Okudzeto has kicked against the vilification of former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

The Minister has received a lot of backlash from the public for several months after huge sums of money were uncovered at her home by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

She has since been investigated for corruption and money laundering.

Defending the former Sanitation Minister in an interview with TV3, Lawyer Sam Okudzeto hit out at the critics, arguing that Ghanaians are dishonest people.

He raised concern about why people vilifying Madam Cecilia Dapaah are not doing the same to the people putting up huge buildings in the country.

“If you come and you find money with me, do I owe you any duty to explain to you to whose money when nobody has complained that I have stolen his money?

“You Ghanaians are not honest people, the number of people, all these huge buildings that they are building, who has asked them where they got the money from, nobody does.

"So you just pick on one individual and you want to make it as if she was just an extraordinary rogue who has stolen money when you don’t even have any evidence that she has stolen money,” Lawyer Sam Okudzeto argued.

Speaking on the matter, former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo said although keeping money at home may not be legally wrong, it is questionable for any public officer to stash money in their house.

Currently, the case involving Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah is in limbo.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor referred the case to EOCO for investigation into alleged money laundering but the Attorney General has advised against it.
